The raw satellite data was processed by NASA from over 8500 scenes. To get the 15 meter data, a process was used to sharpen the resolution to 15 meters with the "panchromatic" band of data. This band is not in the normal color range and shifts the colors into the purple range. There are also seams where one scene overlaps another, and an attempt was made to average the colors in all of the scenes to avoid sharp edges between them.
